Larry E. Barnes is an accountant
and Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor who owns and operates Barnes
Accounting Services, LLC, an accounting and tax practice located on the
rocky coast of Maine near Bar Harbor. Larry provides accounting
services to small businesses in Downeast Maine, including Hancock and
Washington Counties. He specializes in serving sole proprietorships
and small corporations.
Larry assists the small business
owner who is operating on a manual system of accounting to set up a
computerized accounting system using QuickBooks software. The small
business may be an ongoing or startup business. Accounting consulting
services are provided along the journey to develop a successful
business. Tax preparation services are available as well.
Background
Larry started Barnes Accounting
Services in April 2000, after working for a year as an accounting
consultant for The Organizer, Inc., a professional organizing company
based in Ellsworth, Maine. Barnes Accounting Services, LLC has
provided accounting, bookkeeping, payroll and tax preparation services
to startup and small businesses for the past six years in Downeast
Maine.
Prior to accounting, Larry served
as Town Manager and Town Treasurer in Gouldsboro, Maine from 1996-1998,
where he has called home since February 1996. He holds a Master’s
Degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in accounting and
finance.
Prior to moving to Maine, Larry
completed a 26 year career in law enforcement in upstate New York, with
the last 16 years as Police Chief in the communities of Liberty and
Bath, NY. While working full-time, Larry also earned a Bachelor’s
Degree in Criminal Justice Studies. Both of his degrees were earned at
Alfred University, a small private university located south of Buffalo,
NY. He is also a 1988 graduate of the FBI National Academy located in
Quantico, VA. Before his law enforcement career, Larry served six
years in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960’s receiving an Honorable
Discharge in 1969. Larry has been happily married to Sharon Lou Barnes
since 1969. They have two daughters, both who live in upstate New York.
Integrity
Small business owners need an
accountant they can trust. Larry has spent his life working hard to
develop trust and integrity with those whom he has served. He believes
in serving by example to develop integrity. Larry has always been
active in community affairs. He is active in the community library and
in his church. He is a 22 year member of Rotary International.
Skills
Larry continues his education,
keeping current with the annual certification as a QuickBooks
Professional Advisor. He takes advantage of continuing education
opportunities attending seminars to keep current with the ongoing tax
law changes and software improvements in accounting and tax software.
He takes advanced accounting courses to keep abreast with the
accounting profession. Larry has taught QuickBooks courses for the
past 7 years at the nearby Ellsworth Adult Education Program.
